We Share the Same Sky

A brand new production from Banner Theatre begins touring in 2009.

Banner Theatre's new show looks at the world of work in the context of the gathering global recession. Using video interviews, digital media and original new music and song, We Share the Same Sky entwines the stories of three visitors to Britain:

  • From Afghanistan, Ali has fled the Taliban, who murdered his brother, and come to England in search of safety
  • From Poland, where unemployment has been spiralling, Natalya has come to England in search of new livelihood
  • From Venezuela, Edenis visits England and compares life in Britain with the popular revolutionary changes taking place in his home country

We Share the Same Sky weaves these stories into a rich tableau to ask what control we have over our working lives in the crisis-ridden 21st-century global economy. Are we makers of our destinies or the tools of powerful multinational corporations? And does the economic downturn herald a new period of struggle, resistance and change?

Notes to editors:

Banner is a touring company specialising in music and song-based documentary theatre. Each Banner production uses the real-life experiences of disadvantaged or excluded groups, and stories that are rarely heard, collected through video and audio interviews.

It was formed in 1974 by a group of performers, musicians and broadcasters, including former BBC documentary producer Charles Parker, who, with Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger, created the pioneering and award-winning series of radio ballads for the BBC in the 1960s.

A songbook/history, Singing the Changes (price £15 plus £3 p&p) is available, as are many CDs and DVDs with songs from previous productions. For more information about them and about the company ring 0845 458 1909, email info@bannertheatre.co.uk or visit www.bannertheatre.co.uk
