Banner Theatre Needs You!

Banner Theatre’s survival is at risk because of big cuts in our traditional core funding base. This is a direct consequence of the coalition governments policies squeezing finances to arts and community organisations and the consequent massive pressure on other funding sources.

We know our anti-cuts, anti-bankers, anti-tax dodgers and pro-union productions do not find favour with some in the arts establishment. However, we believe our work as the last remaining professional radical touring company in Britain is vital to help raise awareness and challenge the myths and lies propagated by the corporate media.

Our Appeal
We are appealing to our friends in the trade unions for support so we can continue touring our current Fighting the Cuts! show. This delivers inspirational, upbeat songs, video and drama to support the struggle against the Coalition Government’s austerity programme. Our productions get union messages across to union members – and others – in community centres, at festivals, via the web and on the street.

Banner has been working with trade unions for nearly 40 years. Many unions have commissioned shows from us to support their campaigns. In all this time, grants from the Arts Council, local authorities and other bodies, though never lavish, have kept our office going, paid the phone bills and kept our battered tour bus on the road.

This funding is drying up, so this latest blow from the Arts Council puts enormous pressure on our already meagre resources. Whilst we continue to seek alternative funds, we are turning to you for help. Please support us in our hour of need!

How You Can Help
We need trade union branches, regional committees and individual members to become Friends of Banner Theatre and make regular monthly or quarterly donations. If you are a taxpayer, ask us how to make a Gift Aid declaration – this will enable us to raise a further 25p for each pound you give us.

No Contribution Is Too Small!
Here are some examples of what your donation could pay for:

• £5 a month can pay for videotapes for our interviewing
• £10 a month can help pay for promotional leaflets
• £25 a month can help purchase a hard disc for our video footage
• £50 a month will help keep our van on the road
